Scenic Route to Boston

Hi traveling to Boston and I would like to get suggestions on the best scenic route to Boston, MA. I know that there is Merritt Parkway, but how to get there from Garden State Parkway not certain. Would like to see the parkway. Does anyone know this route? Help!!

Scenic Route to Boston

The Meritt Parkway is nice but after that there is not much to look at all the way to Boston.

Going over The Tap is always nice. 95 once past New Haven is nice. There are more rest areas and turnoffs that 91 to 84 to 90. Mystic Ct. is easy enough to get to. You could stop here for lunch. There are some well marked ';Scenic Stops'; on 95.

When approaching Providence...route 295 goes around it. It is another 10 minutes, less if Providence has traffic, and a very nice ride.

Oh I see, just trying to take a different route...thanks much

I wouldn%26#39;t describe the Parkways as ';pretty';, but they certainly are much more pleasant than 95. And there are no trucks or busses buzzing past. You can get on the Merritt by taking 287 East from where the Garden State Parkway ends at the NY line. The Merritt turns into the Wilbur Cross Parkway without making any turns. At the end, take 91 North to 84 East, then the Massachusetts Turnpike (90 East). This way is not only more pleasant, but is at least a half hour shorter than going around Providence on 95.

I always take the Merritt. You can either take the garden state and follow the signs over the TZ bridge or you can go over the GW and make an immediate turn onto the Henry H (9a North) which will also meet up with the Merritt. Just have to watch the signs.

I think 90 from Sturbridge to Boston is an ugly, busy stretch of road with as many trucks as 95 in Ct. and NY. The rest areas are terrible. The several rest areas in Ct. and RI. on 95 north are very nice and without the typical rest are problems.

295 around Providence is a beautiful road with lots of wetlands in the center. There are a few sections you can even catch Swans in the summer.

typo...rest area problems

If your question is the best scenic route all the way to Boston then probably 95 all the way is the best, across the GW and follow the signs.

The Merritt is nice, but is an alternative route which doesn%26#39;t allow trucks. You wind up on 91 heading north to 84, and then the Mass Pike. On 95 at least you%26#39;ll see some coast line with potential stops in Mystic or New London, Ct. Longer and slower, yes, but also the most scenic.
