We are only spending one day here and would like to see as much as possible especially the colored cliffs. Is it doable to bike around or no? Thanks
martha's vineyard bikeable?
No, not if you want to get around the Island.
Vineyard Haven to Gay Head is 18 miles. I took a moped years ago on this ride and my butt was quite sore and I wished I had taken the bus. I guess you would see alot but would probably experience less, at least IMHO.

You might consider renting a jeep wrangler for the day once you%26#39;re on M.V.. It isn%26#39;t cheap but it%26#39;s a great way to see the island.
Check car rentals here:

They have 4 offices on Martha%26#39;s Vineyard. (pick a red convertible and have a blast)
The island%26#39;s buses all have bike racks, so that might be a nice way to go if you would like to do some biking but then use the bus to cover more ground. The bus system is great.
IMHO you don%26#39;t need a 4-wheel drive vehicle though it would be nice to rent a car if you don%26#39;t mind spending the $$$. However the bus is just a dollar a ride. Also, why not post on the MV forum and see what is suggested to you by those experts?
You definitely do NOT need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to explore M.V. but the little jeep wranglers open to the air are a lot of fun. As I said, it isn%26#39;t a cheap jeep, but it%26#39;s fun!
