Is Martha%26#39;s Vineyard part of Cape Cod or are they 2 completely different places? We are a group of twenty somethings who are traveling to Boston, and would like to spend 2/3 days in either place as part of our trip! Can anyone recommend either of them???? Thanks!!!
Marthas Vineyard and Cape Cod?
Hi, they are two seperate places - Cape Cod is a peninsula about an hour south of Boston and the Vineyard is an island off of the Cape. You can reach the Vineyard via ferry from several towns on the Cape. When are you travelling and how many in your group? That will help with to generate a better response. Both are excellent places to visit but depending on time of year, etc I would have different advice.
Marthas Vineyard and Cape Cod?
We will be going a few days before Labor Day weekend. We would like to be somehwere where we can hit the beach easily and then head out somewhere that night, it doesn%26#39;t have to have nightclubs or anything, just some nice restaurants and bars. Thanks so much for getting back to me!
Oh and there will be six of us, maybe eight! Thanks!
Hi, the last part of August is a good time to come. Labor Day can be busy, but if you go before you should be ok - just avoid trying to drive back to Boston on the Monday of LD weekend. Given the length of your visit, I would go with Cape Cod. The Vineyard is beautiful and worth a visit but there is more to deal with - getting over, whether or not to take a car (if you can get a car reservation on the ferry). A fun option would be to take a ferry from Boston to Provincetown - the very end of the Cape, beautiful beaches and dunes, clubs, gay-friendly, great shopping, restaurants and galleries. Here is a link for the ferry http://www.baystatecruisecompany.com/ You can look here at TA for reviews on places to stay.
Wow, Provincetown sounds ideal! I think i noticed it when I was doing my initial research, but I will definitely look at it again in more detail - it sounds great!! Thanks so much for all your advice!
Provincetown has beautiful beaches but you will have to pay to park. The National Seashore requires an entry fee as well. They get crowded on beautiful days so you must get there early to get a parking space. August is the busiest month on the Cape. Especially the first two weeks. the people tend to disappear after Labor day but the weather is some of the most glorius and there are no beach parking fees. Early September is a great time to come to the Cape
Commercial street in Provincetown has great shopping and restaurants all with beautiful views. The main street is loaded with all types of folks but the primary guests of the town are gay. Most of the nightlife will be gay oriented. There are bars and restaurants however that you can relaz with a cocktail and watch the sunset and it is lovely.
The Cape is not known for its nightlife. It is mostly known for the outdoor activities. There are no boardwalks like you might find in New Jersey or Maryland. However, the environment is just beautiful. An evening consists of a wonderful seafood dinner, glass of wine and watching the sunset. You will sleep well in the balmy breezes and get up for another great day at the beach.
Martha%26#39;s Vineyard is a great place to go with a similiar but different ambiance. There are logistical hurdles to jump in order to get there but you do feel like you are in a very special place. The Vineyard consists of several small towns and some of them are dry. Most beaches require stickers
but some are public as well. Edgartown and Oak Bluffs have nightlife with Oak Bluffs probably being the best for twenty somethings
Thnaks for the info. Provincetown sounds great, but one thing that makes me anxious is whether we would stand because we’re not gay, especially if the nightclubs are all gay orientated? We are all completely gay friendly but if almost all tourists are gay I think we would maybe feel a bit out of place.
When you refer to the boardwalks of New Jersey and Maryland, I spent a summer working in Wildwood New Jersey and Ocean City Maryland and if I could find somewhere very similiar to either of those I would be very happy!
I read somewhere that you can only drink alcohol in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, but it seems pretty difficult to find accommodation in either of them.
The search continues!!!!!!! :)
I would say that Provincetown tries to market to everyone; families, singles, straight and gay. But there is a large gay summer population. I think you might have fun there.
The Beachcomber in Wellfleet not far from Ptown is a quintessential summer bar/restaurant that has music and good summer fun. Check out their website. They have a webcam overlooking the beach. I think you would enjoy it.
Hyannis might have some clubs and there are a couple in Dennisport too. I think getting a guide would help you.
All of the tourists are no more gay in ptown than in SF. And just like SF, you may find some jerks but you will probably really have to look as most people are very friendly. You have picked a busy time of year so you should book rooms. Another option could be to stay in the Falmouth area which has beaches, some nightlife and easy access to the ferry for a trip over to MV. 2-3 days will not allow you to do everything. Either way you will enjoy yourselves.
Thanks so much, all this info is very helpful.
I like the sound of Provincetown or Flamouth with the option of taking a day trip over to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard.
I just need to get talking to my friends and decide on somewhere then get the accommodation nailed down! I may come back for advice for this too! :)
