I%26#39;m leaning towards either Northey ST or Henry Derby....
All comments very welcome! THanks.
Northey St B%26amp;B Vs.Henry Derby House Vs Salem Inn
Hi, The Morning Glory and Northey Street B%26amp;B are on opposite sides of downtown Salem. The Northey St Inn is in a older neighborhood with some ';worn'; homes in the area. But a short walk will bring you to the Salem Commons, Hawthorne Hotel and the downtown area. Now the Morning Glory is in a somewhat more attractive neighborhood. I think it will be a longer walk to local attractions. If driving, check what the parking is at the Morning Glory. I drive by it all the time and wonder where the parking is. It is on a busy corner. The Salem Inn is near the Morning Glory. Also, would check parking here too.
Have you tried the Stepping Stone Inn? This is right in the center of things.
If you have more specific questions, I%26#39;ll try to answer them.
Northey St B%26amp;B Vs.Henry Derby House Vs Salem Inn
Thanks... We ended up making a booking at Henry Derby House for our early September visit (2 nights). The owner assures me there is ample parking there. Can you tell me anything extra about its location etc.
Also, can you advise me about the ferry? We are interested in catching a morning ferry to Boston for the day then coming back after early evening meal... are there taxis readily available in Salem to take us from ferry terminal to the B%26amp;B, or can we walk?
Thanks!
I have to apologize for my last post. Wherever I said Morning Glory B%26amp;B I meant Henry Derby(it was almost bedtime. Must have been tired) but anyway The Henry Derby house is very near the very historic Chestnut Street. It is a street filled with period homes that are really very lovely. This area is called the McIntyre District. There is also a home that is open to the public on that street. The name of it is Stephen Phillips Memorial Trust House. Also near by is the ';Witch House'; called such as it was the home of one of the judges on the witch trials. You can walk to downtown Salem. If you like museums, the PEM, Peabody(pronounced pea buddy)Essex Museum is a wonderful museum.
Here is a link to the ferry schedule http://www.salemferry.com/schedule.shtml .As far as walking from the ferry, it would be about 1-1 1/2 miles(guessing)to your B%26amp;B. There are taxi%26#39;s in Salem but you would probably have to give them a call 1 978 744-5344 All City Cab or 1-978-741-2235 Salem Taxi. You can not hail a taxi like you can in a big city. I can not speak for the reliability of either. I am not an area expect but I do work in Salem and have lived there in the past. Hope this helps.
