We%26#39;re spending 2 full days in Boston (in October) before renting a car and spending a week driving up to Portland then to the White Mountains then down near the Berkshires then back via the Mohawk Trail to Boston. We want to stop at Concord as my husband loves American History (we%26#39;re from Australia!!). My question is - should we stay overnight in Concord so that we can see as much as possible (it%26#39;s about a 1.5 hour drive from our accommodation in the Berkshires according to via michelin) or can we see everything in a couple of hours? I%26#39;m concerned that 2 full days in Boston isn%26#39;t enough and if we don%26#39;t stay in Concord overnight, that gives us 1 more full day in Boston as an alternative. We then head home to Oz so we want to use this 1 day wisely. Your thoughts please.
Concord or Boston
With your husband%26#39;s love of American history, I don%26#39;t think ';a couple of hours'; would do the trick. Might a whole day (or most of it)? Probably. But you also didn%26#39;t mention Lexington, which also shares much of the history. While we%26#39;re at it, two full days in Boston may not be enough either. How about cutting back a little on the White Mountains, so that you can add a day in Boston and another for Lexington and Concord? Two weeks should be enough for everything if you allocate it correctly.
Concord or Boston
Where are you renting the car? If you plan on going back to logan, this is going to consume an hour or so. If you are getting the rental near the hotel, get up early and head to Concord. If you feel like seeing Lexington...do this first.
Staying in Concord is not a bad idea. The parking will be free and Concord Center is very nice in the a.m.
I don%26#39;t see the point of staying in Concord when it is so close to Boston unless you are going stay in one of those charming B%26amp;Bs. Ignore anyone who says to cut back on the White Mountains (smiles)
Boston is not the easiest city in which to drive, esp. for visitors. Very poor signage, heavy traffic, rude drivers.
Your husband%26#39;s a history buff? Then you should definitely spend one night in Concord, for convenience sake, so that you don%26#39;t waste an hour driving each way if traffic is clogged.
And the White Mountains are pretty, but history buffs like your husband will appreciate more time in Concord, and cutting back a bit of time in the White Mountains is not a catastrophic decision, IMHO.
