We%26#39;re looking into a trip to Plymouth, Salem, and southern Maine (Ogunquit area). It%26#39;s me %26amp; my husband %26amp; my two daughters (9 %26amp; 12). I haven%26#39;t done much research yet, so I%26#39;m curious about a timeline...I was thinking we%26#39;d start with 2 nights in Plymouth, then do the Salem Museum on our way to Maine-does that make sense to do it that way or should we spend a night there before heading to Maine?
With this being our first visit to Plymouth, what would be reasonable to do (and must do%26#39;s) for a 2 night/3 day stay?
Thanks for your advice!
First trip to Plymouth-looking for recommendations
You can certainly visit all 3 areas. If you start in Plymouth go to www.visit-plymouth.com to get some basic information regarding lodging, dining and attractions. You should be sure to visit Plymouth Rock (5 min),the Mayflower (3/4 hr)and Plimoth Plantation (2 to 3 hr). There is also a nice walking tour with many statues and Burial Hill. It%26#39;s about 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from there to Salem. You need at least 1 day there. I%26#39;m not sure about the driving time to Maine. I%26#39;m sure they%26#39;ll have a lot of information on a Maine tourist site. Enjoy your trip.
First trip to Plymouth-looking for recommendations
All the suggestions for Plymouth are right on - Mayflower, Plimoth Plantation. Also, there use to be an evening (sometimes haunted) Latern Tour that kids your daughter%26#39;s age really enjoyed. Don%26#39;t know if it is still operating. Are you interested in a Whale Watch? They go out from Plymouth Harbor. It is about a 4-5 hour trip total and you really will see whales about 98% of the time. It is as previously stated a couple of hours from Plymouth to Salem. Whether or not you wish to spend a day in Salem is entirely up to you and your family%26#39;s interests. There is certainly enough to do for a whole day. Look in the Salem forum - there is a lot listed and all the details,ie; trolley tour, Peabody Essex Museum, Maritime National Park, the Salem Witch Museum, House of Seven Gables, etc. It is also about a two hour%26#39;s drive from Salem to Ogunquit.
Hope this helps with your planning.
It%26#39;s called the ';Dead of Night Ghost Tours%26#39; and goes off from in front of the Rock at either 7 or 8 depending on the time of the year.
