We are a family of 4 adults and 3 babies driving from the BOS airport to either Cape Cod or MV. I%26#39;ve researched some on the Cape but am not familiar with how long of a drive it is to MV--or best way to travel there.
Any advise as to which location would be best. We are coming the last weekend in June, departing on July 2nd or 3rd. Our flights are limited so we would not arrive BOS until around 6:00pm or later.
Thanks.
BOS to MV with babies
Well, first of all you can%26#39;t drive to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, it%26#39;s an island situated about an hour%26#39;s ferry ride from Cape Cod. Suggest that you stay on the Cape for the very limited time that you have. Perhaps someone familiar with the Upper Cape area will help with accommodation suggestions. What are your interests and what kind of accommodation do you want?
BOS to MV with babies
I was just on the phone with a rental agency in MV and they said it would take 2.5 hours from BOS to get there, ferry included. Is that about right? If so, that%26#39;s about the same amount of time I was told it would be for areas on the Cape. So, what do you consider enough time for MV if our 4-5 nights is limited?
Thank you.
It is 2 1/2 hours if the stars are aligned. You probably will not be able to take a car over for that weekend as the ferry is probably booked. But if you could somehow wrangle a reservation (roundtrip) for the car, then you need to be in line early to make sure you get on the boat. Also, traffic that weekend is hellacious. You will probably end up parking at the remote lot and taking a bus to the ferry which adds time to the trip. Then after you get off the ferry, you need to figure out where you are and where you are staying. You may need to take a bus or taxi depending on that. Also, traffic on MV can get crazy around the towns that weekend. Also, I don%26#39;t know if you can get there the evening that you arrive- you will have to check how late the ferry runs and you will have to leave early on the last day to make sure you get off the Island and then off the Cape. - And you have 3 babies. IMHO, I would stay on the Cape and take a day trip to MV. And I absolutely love MV which really is a different world. It is just a matter of how much you want to punish yourself getting there.
I guess our only option for MVY would be to fly from BOS and eat the extra cost??
If we stay on the Cape where would you suggest? We%26#39;d rent a house and prefer to be able to walk to beach/town since we have little ones. I%26#39;ve been told Catham(??) is good...kind of in the middle.
Hopefully, some others will chime in on places to stay.
Chatham would work. Also, Dennisport or Harwich.
I like to recommend the Red Jacket Resorts which have all kinds of accomodations. Renting a house can be tough for less than a week. Also, if you stay near Hyannis or Falmouth, a day trip to MV becomes very doable and while you won%26#39;t see EVERYTHING, you can get a nice feel for what it is like and you will then have to return.
Okay, am I reading something wrong here? Because what I see is a complete positive, doable trip to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard. You%26#39;re coming the weekend before July 4th. The weekends before and after holidays are fine. Come over to the island - you%26#39;ll love it, and as one of the other posters said, it%26#39;s a different world.
I see the easiest way to get on-island would be to take the Peter Pan bus. It leaves at 7:30pm from Logan airport and arrives in time to catch the last ferry to the island. You can also stay in a hotel near the airport and catch the bus in the a.m. I recommend the Hyatt or Embassy Suites at Logan. Once on the island, stay in either Edgartown or Oak Bluffs. Oak Bluffs is more family friendly. The Dockside Inn, Madison Inn, or Surfside Motel would be good. There are many family friendly restaurants in town. Rent a car for one day and tour the island. I just mentioned two agencies in a post this eve. Both are in OB. Again, it%26#39;s before a holiday and you%26#39;ll be fine.
The island is a very special place. No Starbucks (locally owned Mocha Motts), no MacDonalds, or WalMart. Not even a single traffic light. You%26#39;ll relax so much and love it.
Wait a sec. There is one blinking light. pjtc, it really is about maximizing your time and enjoyment. you know your schedule better than us, the amount of time it will take to get the group out of the airport, etc. If you can be on Island for a couple of days and you be able to catch your breathe and enjoy, then go for it. Additional costs will be parking the car on the Cape side and transportation on the other.
FYI, neslaw1, the blinking light was replaced with a four way stop a couple years ago...
pjtcFl, Yes, your schedule is up to you. My suggestions are only that - suggestions. If you%26#39;re lucky, you%26#39;ll get plenty of options given to you on this forum to make your trip exactly right for you. Continue to respond and ask more questions. The more specific you are, the better information you%26#39;ll receive.
Thanks for the traffic update (lol). See, if you don%26#39;t get there often, so much changes!!!
neslaw1, we have to mix things up a bit here in order to have something to talk about besides the neighbors! Life in a small town...lol
