First timers....

I will be traveling wiht a friend of mine to Boston from July 25-29. I have tickets to the Red Sox games on Sunday and Monday. We are both avid sports fans in our mid 40`s and a trip to Fenway has been our dream. So. We have tickets but need help with hotels and other things to do. I have narrowed it down to the Westin Copley place(144 0n Hotwire), Sheraton Boston Hotel(129 on Hotwire) and the Colonnade(149 through Kayak). I used betterbidiing to find out most of the info. Any pros and cons for these? We also enjoy a good bar/pub. What are some of the better pubs. Not really looking for CHeers type places. I have been all over TA looking but just wanting your views here. Thanks

Of those 3 hotels, I%26#39;d go for the Westin Copley. Very good location, walkable to most everywhere in the city and quite convenient to Fenway, great restaurants, bars and transportation.

If you choose the Westin, you%26#39;re very close to Boylston Street, which has some of the best bars in Boston, including my personal favorite, the Pour House. There is also Whiskey%26#39;s, McGreevy%26#39;s and Daisy Buchanan%26#39;s, all within very close walking distance.

Hope that helps some.

What kind of bars do you like? Better for some is a nightmare for others (hello, Daisy Buchanans).

All three hotels are fine and they are all within a few blocks of each other. If you want to be in the Mall, though, then choose the Westin (Copley Place) or Sheraton (Prudential enter).

Veronica...we are not real picky. Just want to get the true feel of Boston. Maybe an older crowd. Maybe some sort of out of the way places. Thanks for the replys. Good to there from the locals!

Surrounding Fenway for pre or post game drinks there are a number of choices including Cask and Flagon, Game On, The Baseball Tavern, The Boston Beer Works. You will get the pre or post game excitement in any of them.

That sounds good cabinet. Thanks

Although not local, I gather that the Colonnade is the nicer hotel of the ones you mentioned. If you are referring to a price you are seeing on easyclicktravel.com, the hotel will match this price directly if you call them. Also, if you join the I-Prefer rewards program, you will get a room upgrade to a 700 sqft suite based on availability. Take a look at the pictures travelers have posted for each hotel in the reviews section of this website and see which hotel fits your eye best.

You can always book the Colonnade now and keep checking back as there will likely be different inventory on Hotwire as your stay approaches (unless you had your heart set on the Westin or Sheraton). Hotels that appear frequently on Hotwire include the InterContinental, the Westin, the Taj, and the Omni Parker House. I have seen Jurys, Nine Zero, etc. on there from time to time also.

Thanks Pickles. The Kayak link does take you to easyclicktravel. I will call the hotel directly. Our eyes are not set on any particular hotel. These just seemed to be the nicer ones that I was able to find. I know hotwire changes, but the westin and Sheraton seem to fit the description. I have seen many of your posts while researching and they are very helpful.

I will second the Pour House as a good Boston bar in that area. Good eats as well as drinks. I was always a fan of Bukowski%26#39;s as well, which is right off Boylston over the turnpike. They have so many different kinds of beer, you will be overwhelmed. They also have a wheel that randomly selects an unusual beer for you. Good homemade food at Bukowski%26#39;s too. Have fun!

Thanks Perrys....Bukowski%26#39;s does sound good...I enjoy the random selections of beer...what better way of randomness then letting a wheel decide.
