I have been researching MV and would like to go to Oakbluff, Edgartown, Vineyard haven and Aquinnah. We are going in early june and we have a 4 year old and 8 month old. We planned on doing the bus system to get around. Not really into shopping just fun things for the kids and photos/scenery for me. Do you know too what time do you ususally have to leave the island if you are on the Hy-line ferry?
Thank you you guys are the best!
can it all be done in a day?
I can%26#39;t think of a worse way to spend a day with a four year old and an eight month old baby. Your four year old will probably enjoy the ferry and the Flying Horses carousel in Oak Bluffs. I%26#39;m sure that a beach would make him/her happier than sitting on a bus all day.

Fussyguest%26#39;s suggestion on one of your other posts that you rent a car for the day is a much better idea than dragging the children on and off buses. Not sure what time of year that you are going so I suppose that there could be parking issues.
It%26#39;s funny because I think my son would love to ride the bus. He is almost school age and thinks buses are cool. I just want to be able to see as much as possible and still let the kids have their fun too. If I were to leave out 1 area which should I leave out? Is june warm enough to go swimming?
Thanks
Buses are cool, but think about standing and waiting without facilities at three different stops, and sometimes for up to 30 mins. Fun will wear out fast.
Look at the Hy-line schedule on their website and pick your times. You%26#39;ll dock in Oak Bluffs. Call both AA Island Auto Rentals at 508-696-5211 and Sun N Fun Auto Rental at
508-693-5457. They are less than a block from the ferry dock. June is not so busy during the week. Weekends can be crowded with day-trippers.
Visit Oak Bluffs first;
Quick and easy. Walk to the Flying Horses carousel before you pick up the car. It%26#39;s very close. Get the car, drive through the Martha%26#39;s Vineyard Camp Meeting Assoc and look at the 300+ gingerbread style cottages. Drive along Ocean Park. Head up island to Aquinnah. You can stop by the MV Glassworks and watch the glass blowers at work. Park and walk up to view the cliffs in Aquinnah. Then drive to Menemsha. You can buy a small fishing net for $5 in the gas station and let your son wade by the docks. There are often small jelly fish (don%26#39;t sting) and crabs. The kids have a blast. If you like lobster, order one there at Larsen%26#39;s and eat it on the dock at the lobster traps they use as tables. Head back to %26#39;down island%26#39; to Edgartown. Find a place to park, which my take a few laps. Wald down to see the Chappy ferry. As you walk along the dock there is a ice cream/candy shop. Get a treat and sit on the dock by the Yacht Club watching the launch come in.
Back to Oak Bluffs. Catch another ride on the carousel (because you%26#39;ll be using this to get him as a bribe all day-lol) as one of you return the car. Hy-line ferry back to the mainland.
There is a lot of room for variations in the day. Anything of special interest you want to fit in? It%26#39;s a beautiful island. The water is quite cold in June, but kids never notice.
