To South beach and a beautiful sunset from Oak Bluffs

Hi,

My husband, two sons (23 %26amp; 19 yo) and I will be staying at Isabelle%26#39;s in Oak Bluffs for a couple of nights this summer. We have been to MV many times and have visited most areas over the past 30 years so we don%26#39;t want to spend the $$$ renting a car. We will probably just rent bikes.

My question is how to get to South Beach? I know we can take the bus or bike from OB to Edgartown, but how do we then get to South Beach? We have never been there and read this is a good body surfing beach so we%26#39;d like to go.

Also, besides going to Aquinnah for a fabulous sunset, I read that Owen Park Beach is public, so could we see a good sunset there? I thought we could ride bikes to this beach. Or, is the Oak Bluffs harbor sunset comparable?

We are going to be there during the Illumination so I know the island will be hopping! Any other suggestions? Thanks so much in advance!!

Biking from Oak Bluffs to South beach is approx. 10 mile ride and rather easy to find. Beach Road and just before you get into downtown Edgartown, turn right on Katama Rd. Check out this map and then once you arrive, if you need more clarification, someone at Isabelle%26#39;s should be able to help you. mvy.com/islandinfo/gettingaround/biking.php South Beach is in the lower right corner.

Owen Park would not be my pick for viewing a sunset. It%26#39;s facing east and not a clear view when you turn to sit west. Also, riding bikes to Vineyard Haven and then back to Oak Bluffs at dusk, on a busy road at peak season does not sound like a fun or good idea. If you want to see the sunset in a park-like setting, ride up to the East Chop lighthouse. Sitting at the Oak Bluffs harbor, enjoying a drink and a bite to eat can be a lot of fun and the sunset is sometimes quite incredible.

Remember you can and should always call the place you%26#39;re staying for a set of opinions. It%26#39;s part of what you%26#39;re paying for. You%26#39;re staying at a small Inn that I%26#39;m sure will be happy to provide personal service. This will help you make better choices to suit you once you balance them with the advice we%26#39;re all happy to give here.

Thanks for the sage advice, Knows! I will ask Isabelle for suggestions, she sounds very nice over the phone and through email, but I do enjoy hearing other posters thoughts and ideas too so keep it coming!
