Holiday Inn Express Cambridge or on Boston St?

Hi,

We have reservations at Holiday Inn on Boston St. for July, but as always I second guess myself afterwards. The price for the Holiday Inn in Cambridge isn%26#39;t too much more - which would be the better hotel to stay in? Thanks!

Cambridge. But better yet, if you%26#39;re somehow stuck with Holiday Inn, the Holiday Inn Select Beacon Hill is much better still.

Looking for travel companions in Boston May 23-27

Hi! I%26#39;m Peter from Brussels, Belgium, I%26#39;m 34, I love to travel to the US and I%26#39;m in Boston from May 23 till May 27. I%26#39;m looking for people who want to spend some hours, a day or a few days together with me to discover Boston. Bostonian or not, young or old, male or female, it doesn%26#39;t matter. Leave a message if you like my idea!

I can%26#39;t help Peter, but if you can, jump on his suggestion and make him return the favor during a trip to Belgium, Europe%26#39;s neglected jewel.

Of course ! I will be your private guide to Brussel and Belgium one day!

Red Sox tickets for 24th July?

We will be in Boston on 23rd July and would like to go to the game on 24th, should we get the tickets from the stadium as we have heard a few tickets will be on sale on the day of the game, or buy online beforehand? Can anyone recommend any sites, already looked at Stubhub.

Red Sox tickets for 24th July?

Right now nothing is on sale from the Red Sox website for that date. You can continue to check back as they do release tickets as you get nearer to the date. You can stand in line the day of and see if you get lucky that way - but you will have to dedicate some time to that. Or lastly, check stubhub, and acetickets.com.

Red Sox tickets for 24th July?

If you definitely want to go to the game get your tickets beforehand. Acetickets.com is the official ticket reseller. I believe you can pick the tickets up at their office near Fenway. I understand getting them shipped internationally can be a problem.

Many Red Sox tickets sold on StubHub can be emailed to you immediately after you purchase the ticket (they are makred on the site). You simply print out the ticket at home and bring your printout to the game - it gets scanned by the guys at the gate and you are in. Can%26#39;t beat that for convenience.

Sorry, it probably applies to StubHub as well, but I meant to say ';AceTickets'; in my last post.

If you buy from Stubhub you are going to pay more than face value for the ticket plus a commission to Stubhub. They do have a guarantee that in the unlikely event the tickets are not good at the gate you will get your money back. I have bought several times from Stubhub to see the Red Sox at other venues besides Fenway and it%26#39;s always worked out. If you really want to see a game and can%26#39;t get them directly from the box office don%26#39;t be afraid to use Stubhub. I just wouldn%26#39;t buy from someone on the street. Good luck and enjoy the game.

MA Travel Discounts at the Site

I saw this in my local paper today. There is a Mass Value Pass that you can download at www.massvacation.com/deals. There are lodging discounts as well as dining, attractions, and retail. Some of the lodging is a 25% discount. This pass is good until the end of June. I hope this saves someone some money on their summer vacation.

MA Travel Discounts at the Site

I just checked it out - great deals, like 2 for 1 at the Isabella Stewart Gardner, $75 driving credit if you join Zipcar (which could be cheaper than renting a car for a day, and definitely more convenient).

Oh, and for some reason it picked up the ';.'; at the end of the link, which makes it not work, so just click: www.massvacation.com/deals

Good link, Msia!

Thanks, I will have to check that out.

Last minute plan for this weekend and need advice!!

Hi, We have just booked last minute flights to Boston, flying tomorrow night and leaving Sunday night. So we have 3 days and are planning on going straight to the Cape Code area. So I%26#39;m wondering what area you would recommend we stay? Ideally we would like somewhere near the coast, quaint pretty town, romantic, etc. I%26#39;ve read some of the forums and might also take a day trip to Nantucket or Martha%26#39;s Vineyard..if you could pick one, which one would you choose? Would really appreciate any tips you might have. Many many thanks.L

Last minute plan for this weekend and need advice!!

quaint, pretty, romantic: Falmouth, Chatham, Provincetown. (there are others....)

Towns with ferrys for daytrips to the Islands: Falmouth (Woodshole) and Hyannis. The Chatham service starts 5/24/09 or there-abouts.

Last minute plan for this weekend and need advice!!

The ferry service that%26#39;s closest to Chatham is The Freedom Line in Harwich Port. Freedom Line starts making high speed trips to Nantucket on 5/24. (check their website to confirm the date):

Hi, Thank you all for your advice. We had a great weekend. We stayed at the Carriage House Inn in Chatham, which was really good. I would highly recommend this guesthouse. They really do have everything organised and set up perfectly there. It is about a 15 minute walk down to the main street fyi. We went to Nantucket for a day. The weather was cloudy and rainy and most of the island is still closed up, ie Sconset etc. We were told that they will probably open up next weekend but I would suggest checking before you leave. We also went whale watching in Provincetown which was really enjoyable..would highly recommend this activity. Thanks again. L

I%26#39;m so glad you had a wonderful weekend and you enjoyed your stay! Where did you eat?

We ate in the impudent oyster (Chatham) on Friday night which was really delicious and excellent service and in the Squire (Chatham) on Saturday night, was nice but thought it was quite pricey for what you get.

Sounds great (and I agree with you about both restaurants).

Nightlife

I%26#39;m traveling to Salem with a friend next month from Philadelphia and would like to know...........what is there to do in the evening?

I heard there are no dance clubs (bummer cause they are a dime a dozen here) so how do you let loose? I%26#39;m not expecting to go wild and crazy but we are on vacation.

Where does the late twenties/early thirties crowd hang?

Do you have any 24 hour diners?

Local spirits store?

Don%26#39;t worry, I%26#39;m not partyting it up with children. My best friend and I are going in order to celebrate her 30th birthday. (I already booked a reservation at Strega on her special night).

Thanks for any/all input.

Sarah

Nightlife

There actually is dancing in Salem. ';Rockafella%26#39;s'; has dancing. Not sure but ';O%26#39;Neil%26#39;s'; across the street from Rockafellas is a popular spot. Another place with a young crowd is Strega where you already have a reservation.

Liqour stores in Salem: Bung hole (yes, this is the real name) across from Pickering Wharf. Steve%26#39;s Market has beer and maybe wine. Wine stores: Pamplemouse in the East India Mall and Salem Wine Imports on Church St. Across from this wine store is The Lyceum Restaurant which has live bands Fri %26amp; Sat nights (sometimes dancing on Fri nights) but this is an older crowd. Finz at Pickering Wharf no longer has music but does have a crowd about your age and it gets crowded on weekends.

Do not know if there are 24 hr. diners or not.

Hope this helps and have fun in Salem.

  • heavy makeup
  • courtyard resort main st hyannis ( timeshare)

Staying in July on a timeshare switch. Have seen some REAL bad reviews elsewhere. Anybody been, comments. About the only good review is the location right on Main St.

    Thanks in advance.

I drive by it every day on my way to work. It does not look very nice, but I have never been inside. The enclosed pool area%26#39;s windows are streaked and cloudy. I%26#39;m not quite sure what the draw to Main Street is. There are some restaurants, but none that are over the top good.

courtyard resort main st hyannis ( timeshare)

Thanks........I am not expecting much but am hoping to get MORE respones.

we went there 2 years ago and left within an hour.

We went in sept. and it was going to be a cold night. We asked how to put the heat on and they told us it wasn%26#39;t turned on just yet. The room smelled of smoke and they said they could come and spray it to help with the odor. The couch was very old looking and torn and worn on arms. The wallpaper was not in great shape and the runner in the shower door was awful.

Even the reception area looked bad.

We left and were luck to find a room down the street at the Hyannis Travel Inn and went there last year and are going back again this year.

Thanks..........EEEK! This REALLY doesnt sound good. Going Mid- july.

jrinct1: This is the Marriott Courtyard, right? It%26#39;s rated #3 on TA reviews and the reviews here are really quite good!

(Divi, I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s unusual for pool enclosures to be cloudy or streaky in the winter months...perhaps the hot air of the pool area clouds up on the colder glass of the enclosure? pool fog!)

Anyway: check out the reviews here. Pehaps you%26#39;d consider giving them a call and tell them you%26#39;ve been reading TA reviews and wanted to know if they%26#39;ve gone through a recent refurb. Here%26#39;s the link to TA reviews of this lodging:

    tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g41623-d224063-…

No! Thats on RT 132 this is on MAIN ST in HYANNIS. This one has nothing to w/a Marriot.

the Courtyard that I am referring to is at 460 Main St. Hyannis

oops, sorry! (that%26#39;s why I asked and posted the link..I wasn%26#39;t sure which it was).

Is this the old howard johnson%26#39;s? I think it is...I don%26#39;t think we have reviews here.

I hope (as you did) that people who have stayed there can comment. I%26#39;ve not stayed there.

Yes. its the old Howard Johnson.

Have read many rooms have the old ';';murphy beds'; that ya pull down from the wall. Read a few reviews on my timeshare site, and people pretty much REALLY gave it negative reviews.
